Currently, Nigeria has about 152 accredited and approved Universities according to Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC).

Among these 152 universities in Nigeria, 10 universities have been ranked by webometrics as the best universities in Nigeria.

This ranking was based on the quality of the educational system they operate and the output (graduates) that they produce yearly.

1. University of Ibadan

Three best University

The University of Ibadan, popularly known as UI is a foremost and oldest tertiary institution in Nigeria. Founded in 1948 and became independent in 1962 after Nigeria got her Independent in 1960.

Alhaji, Rt. Hon. Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the Prime Minister Of Nigeria was the first Chancellor of the University Of Ibadan from 1963 to 1966. Prof Kenneth Onwuka Dike was the first Vice-Chancellor (1960 -1967).

2.  Covenant University

Covenant University was initiated and founded by Dr. David Oyedepo, the General Oversea of Living Faith Church Worldwide, the institution opened on 21 October 2002 in Cannanland, Ota in Ogun State.

It is a private Christian university, affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of African Universities and National Universities Commission.

The university over the years has maintained excellent and efficient academic teachings, tight code of conduct and strict measures within the School environs.

3. University of Nsukka

Best universities in Nigeria

The University of Nsukka is the first indigenous university in Nigeria, founded by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 but was formally opened on 7th October 1960.

The university has four campuses in Nsukka  (UNN), Enugu (UNEC), Ituku-Ozilla (UNTH) and Aba (UNAC).

The University of Nigeria is believed to be the first full-fledged indigenous and autonomous university in Nigeria and the first land grant university in Africa universities in the country. The tertiary institution is made up of  15 faculties and 102 academic departments; which offers 82 undergraduate programs and 211 postgraduate programs.

The tertiary institution is located at Nsukka, in Enugu State, the Eastern region of Nigeria. The institution has produced over the years prominent and notable personality in the society.
